  8. Executive Director, CERFnet

  10. Susan has been involved with the Internet community for 8 years. 
  11. Starting with the original NSFnet in 1985 and continuing on with
  12. the organization and implementation of the California Education and
  13. Research Federation Network (CERFnet), she has shown her commitment
  14. and enthusiasm for the Internet concept.  Additionally, she has
  15. been involved with various organizations benefiting
  16. Internetworking.  She has served as the Vice President of FARNET
  17. and as a member of the board.  She is a co-founder and currently
  18. the President of the Commercial Internet Exchange (CIX).  For one
  19. year, she acted as the co-area director for the Operational
  20. Requirements Area of the IETF and served as a member of the IESG.
  21. Prior to her current employment, she worked for Pacific Telephone
  22. and AT&T in various engineering and product development roles. 
  23. She has a degree in engineering from UCLA.

  27. I have been involved with the Internet for almost 8 years and plan
  28. to continue my involvement.  The Internet Society has the
  29. opportunity to be a dynamic force in the Internet world.  It needs
  30. to provide substance for the professional development of its
  31. membership.  It must find out what the membership needs and find
  32. appropriate mechanisms to meet those needs.  The first year of the
  33. Internet Society has been, on the whole, uneventful. I would like
  34. to help the Internet Society reach a well-respected status in the
  35. community and from peer communities.  I believe that the only way
  36. of accomplishing this is to make the Society much more visible,
  37. through a limited number of dynamic projects.  The Society is
  38. needed, but it must show some momentum soon.
